  • Take some advice from Debbie and Tina

    Andrew Powell

    18 July 2008

A REDDITCH woman and her business partner have launched a new one-to-one counselling service, specially placed for dealing with adult clients who feel overwhelmed or unable to cope with life’s struggles.
Debbie Reed from Webheath, along with Tina Elliott, both qualified counsellors, have started up St John’s Counselling Service, based on the Kidderminster Road in Bromsgrove.
Talking therapy can provide an outlet for problems which cannot be solved personally or by advice from family, friends, neighbours, religious leaders or family doctors for a number of reasons.
Where people feel too embarrassed or ashamed to talk or have no appropriate person to turn to, St John’s Counselling Service is available to help unravel issues as diverse as death, inability to sleep or panic attacks.
“Counselling is about helping you find ways to live life more satisfactorily, to feel more comfortable with yourself and your relationships, to feel more in control and to make
changes that might be needed, or to come to terms with difficult events in your life,” Ms Reed said.
"By simply talking through their problems, clients are able to look at themselves, take responsibility for their difficulties and make their own decisions - counsellors can help patients to find the confidence and coping strategies to deal with those problems."
At counselling, the root cause of the issue is found and dealt with, sometimes behaviour is changed or negative thoughts wiped, whilst the aim of other sessions is simply to provide support and a listening ear.
To find out more during a free consultation, to book an appointment or to ask about the possibililty of introducing counselling services to a GP surgery, call 07784 485662 or visit www.stjohns-counsellingservices.co.uk.
