A BROMSGROVE car garage is helping an Olympic cycling hopeful get into the driving seat.
Regal Garage has handed Bromsgrove resident Jess Varnish, the keys to a personalised Peugeot 207, as part of a 12-month sponsorship contract.
The branded Peugeot will hopefully help the 17-year-old on her way to passing her driving test so that she will be able to drive herself and her treasured bike to competitions around the country in preparation for London 2012, where she hopes to make the Great British Olympic Cycling Team.
Jess has been a member of Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club for the past seven years and in 2005 was selected for the Olympic Development Programme (ODP) at just 14 years of age.
She made her debut as part of the Great Britain ODP team at the Austrian Junior International in January 2006 where she achieved two fourth places.
Last year was an extremely good year for Jess where she was selected for the European Championships in Cottbus; coming first in the Junior Women’s Keirin and second in the Junior Women’s 500m TT, and the Junior World Championships in Aguascalientes, where she came second in the Women’s sprint.
Managing director of the garage, Tim Mayneord, said: "We were delighted to supply Jess with her personally branded 207.
"She is an inspiration to all local young athletes and we wish her every success in her cycling career."
